You just might have noticed that Greynode has a new design. It has a new backend as well. Rather than using django, I have used CakePHP. Hopefully as time goes on more features will be added on to the site. Visit for more updates!
Apparently Yahoo ads suck. I was recently browsing the web when I came across an interesting ad generated by Yahoo. I guess the programmer they used for their ad software got a little bit lazy. Take a look for yourself:
I've made a few updates to the site over the past couple days. First, the tags now link to pages specific to each tag. Also, I have made sure the comments forms are working, and I have added pagination to the index page to keep it from getting too large. Look for AJAX pagination soon!
If you haven't noticed, the pagination on the main page of the website is now using AJAX to dynamically load the next page requested. I've also added an RSS feed to greynode. So far the site is coming along nicely!
On a whim this early morning I decided to purchase new hosting for greynode. Why I did this I'm not exactly sure, but it was cheap and I think it's well worth it. More details tomorrow!
Well, quite a bit has happened since my last post. First, I got a research position at the Wireless Network and Communications Research Center at Illinois Institute of Technology. The project involves scanning the wireless spectrum from 30MHz-3GHz in Chicago and doing various things with the data. One of the goals of the project is to be able to identify those on the other side of the digital divide and reach out to them. At the moment I am writing software for controlling GPS units. I may post some code examples later.
Second, I got a digital projector. It's an Epson Powerlite S5. It actually works quite well, even functioning as a 70" TV while the sun is still out. Yes, the projector works during daylight hours without much effort in making the room dark. The picture is obviously much clearer and brighter in the dark, but rest assured it will work with the lights on. It even has (decent) built in speakers for if you're laptop speakers are really quite.
I also recently went to the Blue Fin Sushi Bar in Chicago. I must say, the sushi was absolutely delicious -- the best I've ever had. It was so good in fact I've found myself craving sushi even after this recent visit which almost never happens. If you are ever in Chicago and want some sushi, Blue Fin is the place to go. Be warned, however, that your bill will not be exactly what a frugal person would look for.
So it's been another short while since I've posted. Today was a pretty good day. Originally, Laurel and I were going to go to Dekalb to go dress shopping for a wedding. We woke up a little late and felt lazy, so we went to Orland Park instead. First stop was the mall. I spent a bit of time in the Apple Store inquiring about new headphones and a new iPhone. I received neither. After this we found a dress for Laurel and headed out to Trader Joe's. We got some Orangina and chocolate from Trader Joe's and headed home.
We then proceeded to our friend Larry's house in Chicago. After chilling for a little bit we went to get sushi at Blue Fin. Go there if you get a chance, it's delicious. After that I came home, and now I am here. So I leave you now. Goodnight.
Things like this disgust me. I can't believe our military and our government is allowing this sort of stuff to happen without punishment. It's getting worse every day. Please read the below article and sign the petition. Just imagine this being your daughter, your sister, or your best friend. Maybe then you'll realize how horrible this actually is.
Dear Friend,
LaVena Johnson was 19 years old, serving in Iraq as a private in the Army, when she was raped, murdered, and her body was burned--by someone from her own military base. Despite overwhelming physical evidence, the Army called it a suicide and closed the case.[1]
For three years, LaVena's parents have been fighting for answers. At almost every turn, they've been met with closed doors or lies. But together we can help achieve justice for LaVena and other families who have suffered similar tragedies.[2]
Will you join me in standing with the Johnsons and calling on Henry Waxman, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, to investigate the Army's cover-up of Lavena's death?
